A cement mixer is stationed in front of the fomer Litchfield County Correctional Center in Litchfield on Tuesday while pouring cement for the footings of a walkway that will be built along the south side of the building, which is being converted for commercial, office, retail and residential use.

The owners of the building, Russell Barton, Susan Stone, Robert Meyers and Harriet Saltzman, will appear before the Litchfield Historic District Commission on May 18 to seek approval for a modification of their plan. They are seeking permission to cut three exterior doorways into the masonry of the lower level were retail shops will be located.

The approved plan calls for three windows to be made into doorways. The HDC meeting will be held on site at 6:30 p.m.
