St. Paul's Church in Bantam had quite a day Saturday as it hosted its always-popular annual chicken barbecue and was the winning bidder in a foreclosure sale of property abutting its land.
The church plans to divide the 3.4-acre property and use a half-acre of to expand the church parking lot and create a driveway leading to Doyle Road. The church's bid for the property, which includes a house in need of substantial work, was $185,860. The bid was $2 over what the bank that foreclosed on the property offered.
The church now waits for the sale to be approved in Litchfield Superior Court. Once the sale is approved, the church can begin its effort to divide the property and sell the almost 3 acres it doesn't need, as well as the house.
