Planing for Litchfield's 300th anniversary celebration in 2019 is poised to begin.

The Board of Selectmen got the ball rolling last week by appointing a steering committee this will be chaired by Borough of Litchfield Warden Lee Losee and historian Lynne Brickley.

Members of the committee are Robert D’Andrea, Gerry Perusse, Town Clerk Lisa Losee, Cleve Fuessenich, Peter Vermilyea, Litchfield Historical Society executive director Cathy Fields, and Ann Combs. First Selectman Leo Paul Jr. is an ex-officio member of the committee.

The plan, Brickley told selectmen, is to organize a series of events during the summer of 2019 in observance of the anniversary. All organizations in town will be welcome to participate.

The last major anniversary celebration in town was the 250th, in 1969. The steering committee will spend the rest of 2016 meeting with town organizations to discuss possible activities. A survey of residents is also in the works.
