Litchfield’s Board of Education filled the vacant principal’s position at Center School on Wednesday.
The board appointed Lisa Deltano, who has spent her entire 27-year career as an educator in the Canton school system, to the position that opened when Abe Ammary stepped down June 30.
Deltano was recommended to the board by an interview committee made up of Superintendent of Schools Sherri Turner, two board members, four administrators, two teachers and one parent.
“Her experience in Canton is so relevant to what we need at Center School,” Turner said. “She has knowledge of curriculum in every content area and in her job has had administrative responsibility.”
Deltano has been Canton’s math and science coordinator for grades K-6 and the elementary education department chairman in Canton for 11 years. She spent her first 16 years in Canton as an elementary school teacher.
Center School was an attractive opportunity, according to Deltano, who applied for the principal job when it was reopened by Turner after a first wave of candidates wasn’t very impressive.
“We were looking for someone with experience and in the first round didn’t get it,” Turner said.
Deltano was one of about 50 applicants, Turner said, and was the unanimous recommendation of the interview committee.
