Litchfield's Democratic Town Committee could determine Wednesday who it will recommend to succeed the late Diane Knox on the Board of Selectmen.
Knox, a Democrat, passed away last week after a battle with pancreatic cancer and the town committee is charged with recommending to the board a potential successor (or potential successors) for her seat. First Selectman Leo Paul Jr. and Selectmen Paul Parsons, Jonathan Torrant and Jeffrey Zullo will pick the new selectmen and have made it clear they would prefer the town committee recommend more than one candidate.
If the town committee issues a recommendation out of its nominating committee meeting tonight, selectmen could chose a new selectman during their meeting on Tuesday.
Potential candidates for the seat are Anne C. Dranginis of the Board of Finance, Denise Raap, who was elected to the Planning and Zoning Commission in November, and unsuccessful first selectman candidate Matthew Blasavage.
Selectmen under state law have until Jan. 17 to fill the seat. The second selectmen’s meeting of the month is set for Jan. 16.
