The Litchfield Main Street Initiative Committee is off and running with leadership and a mission.
Established by the Board of Selectmen this spring to recommend ways of improving the local economy, the committee met for the first time Monday and elected officers. Jonathan Wilson will serve as chairman, Kathryn Zullo vice chairman and Denise Raap secretary.
Others serving on the committee are Selectmen Diane Knox and Jonathan Torrant, Cleve Fuessenich of the Economic Development Commission, Gerry Perusse of the Borough of Litchfield Board of Warden and Burgesses, and Richard Sheldon, warden of the Borough of Bantam Board of Warden and Burgesses.
The committee discussed the importance of promoting Litchfield and Bantam as tourist destinations for dining, shopping and recreation. Forming the committee was the idea of Wilson and First Selectman Leo Paul Jr.
The committee will meet the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Town Hall and will provide periodic updates on its work to the selectmen.
