Selectmen to begin town hall discussion next week
Litchfield.bz (01-06-19)

The Jan. 15 meeting of Litchfield's Board of Selectmen will feature the start of discussion about what to do about Town Hall, a 58-year-old building that is showing its age.

The board will also address the fate of the former Bantam School, home of the Town Hall Annex and the Bantam post office. The old school is in distressed condition as well.

Discussion will come on the heels of voters on Dec, 19 rejecting a plan to spend up to $7.6 million converting the former Litchfield County courthouse into a town hall and a proposal to give the former Bantam School to the Litchfield Housing Trust, which would have created an affordable housing community.

Selectmen met last Tuesday and after a brief discussion decided that their Jan. 15 meeting would mark the start of a serious discussion. First Selectman Leo Paul Jr. advised selectmen to use the two weeks to think creatively about what could be done with both buildings.
