Cowboys advance to Tri-State tournament semifinals

The Litchfield Cowboys reached the semifinals of the Tri-State League tournament by defeating the Tribury Twisters in a best of three series.
Litchfield clinched a trip to the semis by winning Monday's decisive game, 7-1, at Litchfield High School. In a doubleheader Sunday, Tribury won the first game, 5-4, and the Cowboys took the nightcap, 6-4.
On Monday, the Cowboys took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Mike Odenwaelder drove in one run with a hit and Ed Pequignot drove in two more with a hit. The lead increased to 7-0 in th third inning.
Dan Hedden tossed five shutout innings for the Cowboys to notch the win. Justin Binkowski mopped up over the last two frames.
The Cowboys will be joined in the semifinals by the Tri-Town Trojans, who swept Southington in a best of three series.
