The Litchfeld Cowboys earned a split in a doubleheader against the Amenia Monarchs in Tri-State League play at Litchfield High School on Saturday.
Amenia won the first game 3-2 as Travis Hyatt of Amenia out-dueled the Cowboys’ Eddie Pequgnot. Litchfield won the nightcap 5-3. The Cowboys are 11-5.
In the opener, Amenia scored all of its runs in the first inning by combining a Cowboy error and RBI singles by Ken Shufelt and Chris Reed. Hyatt went six innings for Amenia, giving up two earned runs and five hits.
In between games, the Cowboys showed their generosity with some excellent food for the out of state guys.
Game 2 saw Dan Hedden take the mound for the Cowboys and the Monarchs go with rising high school senior Dylan Tinker. In just the opposite of the first game, the Monarchs slipped defensively and the Cowboys built a 5-1 lead after four innings.
