Cowboys deep and talented on the soccer field
Litchfield.bz (09-05-18)

What is expected to be a strong season for Litchfield High’s boys’ soccer team begins at home Friday with a match against Nonnewaug.

The Cowboys return several key players from last year’s team that went 11-6-1 and reached the quarterfinals of the Class S tournament. Litchfield, coached by Rob Andrulis, is ranked 10th in the Connecticut boys soccer coaches preseason poll for Class S and M schools.

First-team All-Berkshire League and Class S All-State choice Charlie Shanks, a senior, is back and will serve as captain with fellow seniors Carson Mello and Coleby Bunnell. Shanks is the top scoring threat while Mello, a second-team All-BL pick last year, plays midfield, and Bunnell, also second team All-BL choice, anchors the goal.

Other key returning players are seniors Miles Chapman, Ryan Garden and Augie Hurtado, all defenders, and Spencer Sivilla, John Ray and Matt Gostkowski, all midfielders; juniors Ajani Campbell, a forward, Luke Parsons, a defender, and Walter Sabella, a forward; and sophomores Tim Donovan, a second-team All-BL pick at forward, and Aidan Donohue at forward,

“With a great group of talented returning players from last years squad we hope to compete and be near the top of the league standings come the end of October and make a deep run in the CIAC tournament,” Andrulis said.

Andrulis is 164-120-21 in 17 seasons at the helm.
