Litchfield put together its most complete game of the season Friday in hammering Gilbert 69-42 to even its record at 3-3.
Tripp Melk scored 18 points and Jared Guilmart and Evan Fischtal each had 14 as the Cowboys pulled away in the second half after leading 36-25 at halftime. Mikes Chapman added eight points for the winners, who picked up the pace in the second half and ran a fastbreak that generated numerous layups.
"That's the best we've played at both ends of the floor this season," Litchfield coach Dan Goscinski said. "This was a big game that we needed to win, especially with (Gilbert) missing a couple of guys. We thought we could take it to them physically and wear them down."
Melk scored points in the first half to get the Cowboys off to a good start and finished the game with four three-point field goals. Fischtal scored seven points in each half in an aggressive effort and Guilmart scored six points in the fourth quarter as Litchfield's running game hit full speed.
