Tim Donovan picked up where he left off last year for Litchfield High's boys soccer team as he scored three goals to lead the Cowboys to a 3-0 victory over Shepaug in the season opener at Plumb Hill Playing Fields on Thursday.
Donovan, a junior who led the Cowboys in goals scored last year, found the goal twice in the first half to give his team a commanding lead. He capped the scoring with a second-half goal on a shot from 30 yards out.
Luke Parsons, another returning starter from a Class S semifinal team, assisted on two of Donovan's goals. Parsons, a senior, is expected to be more of a playmaker this season to complement the explosive scoring skills of Donovan. Erik Tieman, in his first start as a goalie, recorded the shutout.
Other seniors on the roster of coach Rob Andrulis are Daniel Pang, Evan Fischthal, Tucker Roveto and Ajani Campbell. Juniors, in addition to Donovan and Tieman, are Aiden Donohue, and Jason Thompson. Sophomores are Mason Schultz, Ethan Pang, Thomas Gostowski, Thomas Eykelhoff, Daniel Dieck and Harrison Barnes. Freshmen are Michael Pellegrino and Max Laure.
