The Litchfield Hills Rowing Club has named Drew Combs as its head coach and program director.
Combs, a graduate of Shepaug Valley High School, will begin overseeing rowing activities for the club's masters and juniors programs on Feb. 4.
Combs brings nearly 30 years of experience in rowing the club. He began by helping run the Eastern Sprints on Lake Waramaug (now held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.). Next up was three years of rowing at Marist College, where his crews often were ranked in the top 20 in the country.
Coaching stints followed at Kent School, Community Rowing, Inc., Northeastern University, University of Buffalo, Sarasota Crew, Norwalk River Rowing Association, Fairfield University and the Connecticut Boat Club.
“Litchfield has always been home to me, so I know the advantages and challenges of the area that will help us build a nationally recognized club,” Combs said. “I am a teacher according to my college degrees, so I love to educate. I simply found a better classroom.
A meet and greet with Combs will be held Jan. 12 from noon to 1 p.m. at the LHRC’s indoor facility at 607 Bantam Road.
