Litchfield Open golf tournament a success

The annual Litchfield Open golf tournament held at the Torrington Country Club on Monday by the Litchfield Sports Booster Club was a success.
The 18-hole event drew 63 golfers and raised money for sports programs in the Litchfield school system. More than $200,000 has been donated by the sports booster club over the years. Golfers participating in steamy conditions Monday were treated to a buffet lunch and a full-course dinner.
First-place low-gross honors went to the foursome of Don Dennis, Craig DuBois, Chris Dennis and Jason Morse, who combined for a score of 70.
Low-net honors were captured by John Scanlon, Steve Funk, Brian Fairchild and Evan King with a score of 124.
In scramble play, low-gross first place went to J.P. Simoncelli, George Simoncelli, Joe Simoncelli and Jim Simoncelli with a score of 65.
Low-net winners were Mark Murphy, Dana Jewett, Jerry Geci and Don Jacobs with a 65.
The George Telford Trophy for low senior net was won by Paul McLaughlin, Tom Villanova, John Calkins and Bill Polito with 129.
Closest to the pin among women golfers were Lori Simoncelli, Cindy Ferrarotti, Patty Rogers and Judy Rotondo. Among men, closest to the pin was Jeff Torrant.
