Litchfield's Hayward caps outstanding college career
Former Litchfield High track and field standout Chelsea Hayward, a senior at Roberts Wesleyan University, has been named the East Coast Conference female outdoor track and field athlete of the year.
Hayward, selected for the honor by the conference’s coaches, finished her running career at Roberts Wesleyan as the most decorated track and field student-athlete in conference history and school history.
Hayward was named an NCAA All-American in the 2018 outdoor season after placing second in the 200-meter dash (23.32 seconds) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.60 seconds). She was also named the ECC indoor track and field athlete of the year, USTFCCCA East Region female track athlete of the year, and the NCCAA Wheeler Award Recipient for being one of the nation's top female track athletes.
Hayward helped lead the Redhawks to their fourth straight ECC Championship in the spring by winning the 100 meters and 200 meters and for being part of the winning 4x400 and 4x100 relay teams. She also won first-place medals in the four events at the NCCAA national championships.
In addition, Hayward held the top times in the East Region in the 100, 200 and 400, and in the 4x100.
