LTC athletes stand out at Connecticut Nutmeg Games

Four runners from the Litchfield Track Club earned six top finishes in the Connecticut Nutmeg Games Track and Field Championships at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on Saturday.
The gold-medal winner for the LTC was local sports celebrity Brent Hawkins, who won the 800 meters in the men's 60-65 age group in a time of 3:16.37. SIlver medalists were Alex Brites in the mile run with a personal best of 4:54.53. Brites will compete in the USATF National Championships in Kansas at the end of the month in the 1500 meters and 3000 meters.
Ashlynn Cook placed second in the women's open high jump and third in the 400 meters. She also placed fourth in the javelin. her brother, Billy, was third in the 400 meters and in high jump in the boys 17-18 division. Billy Cook has also qualified for the USATF nationals in the high jump.
On the basis of a top three finish in their divisions, the LTC athletes qualified for the national meet that will be held in August in Michigan.
