O'Neill completes strong freshman season at St. Joe's

Ryan O'Neill of Litchfield played a key role for the University of St. Joseph's men's basketball team as it came within one victory of advancing to the NCAA Division III national tournament.
St. Joe's, in its inaugural men's basketball season, reached the championship game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament. The Blue Jays got to the title game by defeating Suffolk University in the quarterfinals, 95-84, and St. Joseph's of Maine in the semifinals, 91-86. They fell to Albertus Magnus in the penultimate game, 81-77, and finished the season 16-12.
O'Neill, a freshman, scored 13 points against Suffolk, had two points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals against St. Joseph's, and collected eight points and four rebounds against Albertus Magnus. For the season, O'Neill scored 9.7 points and grabbed 4.2 rebounds a game.
