The best turnaround story in the Berkshire League this fall has to be Litchfield High's field hockey team.

It has been years since the Cowgirls have found themselves where they are with two games left in the regular season: The top of the BL standings.

Litchfield, coached by Lily Deering, is 9-3-1 after a 1-0 win under the lights at Wamogo on Friday. The Cowgirls will host Nonnewaug on Tuesday and Wamogo on Thursday in the last regular-season game. Then it's on to the state tournament, where Litchfield should gain a high ranking and at least one home game.

Wamogo's Jackie Weik controls the ball.

Brooke Small makes a run for the Cowgirls, trailed by Wamogo's Abby Lutz.
