Tested by adversity for the first time this season, Wamogo's boys basketball team passed on its way to winning the Litchfield Hills Holiday Classic on Saturday.
Coach Gregg Hunt's Warriors defeated Somers 63-56 in a well-played and entertaining title game. For Wamogo, it was the closest of five games this season as Somers put up a strong fight.
The Spartans led 45-44 after three quarters, but Wamogo scored the first 12 points of the third quarter to take control. A pair of three-point field goals by Ethan Collins keyed the surge. Collins and Garrett Sattazahn each scored eight points in the decisive quarter.
Sattazahn finished with 23 points, Collins 15 and Reid Turtoro 12. Sattazahn and Collins were both named to the all-tournament team. In the consolation game, Shepaug defeated Mount Everett, Mass., 69-31.
