In what may have been a first meeting on the hardwood, the Wamogo boys’ middle school basketball team defeated St. Peter/St. Francis of Torrington, 48-42, on Feb. 15.
The game was a close contest with many lead changes and exceptional play by both teams. Neither team led by more than four until late in the fourth quarter when Jacob Thompson (9 points) buried a three to put Wamogo up by six.
SPSF was led by CJ Marino's 11 points and Connor Albert and Eric Sovia with 10 points each, while Declan Toland and Matthew Crowley completed the scoring for the Crusaders with nine and two points, respectively.
Wamogo was led by Aiden Scanlon with 11 points, Chase Ciccarelli with nine, and Chad Crane and Justin Ferrer with six points each. Drew Lutz and Evan Barrante rounded out the scoring for the Warriors with five points and two points, respectively.
