Litchfield’s Democratic Town Committee has a candidate to challenge First Selectman Leo Paul Jr. in the November election.
Matthew Blasavage, owner of K&M Hauling, will be proposed by the town committee during the Democratic Party caucus July 19 at 7:30 p.m. at La Cupola Restaurant in Bantam.
Town committee Chairman Darlene Clouther announced the choice of Blasavage on Tuesday.
“He’s a great guy with many ideas on how to improve the business climate in Litchfield,” town committee Chairman Darlene Clouther said of Blasavage in her announcement.
Blasavage, who moved to Litchfield in 1995, has never held an elected office. He is a member of the board of directors of the Litchfield Community Greenway and serves on the board of trustees at the First Congregational Church of Litchfield.
Paul, a seven-term incumbent as a Republican, is expected to gain the nomination to seek an eighth term during the Republican Party caucus July 25 at 7 p.m. at Bantam Borough Hall.
