The second round of the Division V state tournament awaits Litchfield's boys after they stomped on Bolton in a first-round game Tuesday.
Led by the sweet shooting of Matt Gostkowski and the tough play of Evan Fischthal, the Cowboys rolled to an 80-51 victory that set up a secound-round game Thursday at Berkshire League rival Nonnewaug. Litchfield is 12-11.
Gostkowski struck for 19 points, including 13 in the second quarter as the Cowboys pulled ahead for good, and Fischthal, playing aggressively with the ball, had 18 points. Fischthal, who got to the basket at will, was 14 of 15 from the free-throw line.
Jared Guilmart added 14 points and Tripp Melk had 10 points and 12 rebounds to help the Cowboys avenge a loss to Bolton in the tournament last year.
The Cowboys led 12-11 after one quarter and 37-25 at halftime before gradually pulling away in the second half.
