Hawkins impressive in Connecticut Nutmeg Games

Local sports celebrity Brent Hawkins, representing the Litchfield Track Club, put on a show at the Connecticut Nutmeg Games at the Willowbrook Park track in New Britain on Saturday.
Hawkins, parks and recreation director in Litchfield, won two gold medals and set a meet record in the 800 meters while dominating the competition in the 60-69 age group. His record in the 800 was 3:10.10. He followed that with a first-place time of 6:59 in the mile.
In the youth female divisions, the LTC boasted triple winners. In the 6-and-under division, Attie Bergin of Goshen won the 100 meters in 21.13 seconds, the 200 meters in 43.94 seconds and the 400 meters in 1:41.82. Indigio Romanchik of Torrington dominated the 9-10 division with wins in the shot put, discus and javelin.
Danny Bergin of Goshen, competing in the boys’ 11-12 age group, placed first in the shot put and discus. Ashlynn Cook of Torrington, competing in the women’s 19-29 division, was the winner of the high jump.
