Litchfield.bz (04-04-18)

Litchfield boys tennis: Dean Birdsall is back as coach after leading the Cowboys to a 12-2 record in his first season last year. Charlie Shanks, 15-1 in singles play last year, returns as do singles players Ryan Garden and Miles Chapman. It should be another good season.

Litchfield girls tennis: The Cowgirls will challenge for Berkshire League and Class S titles with the group coach Dan Porri has back after last year’s 14-3 season. Litchfield reached the semifinals of the state tournament last year. Lexi Honigmann, a senior, has never lost a singles match in the regular season as Litchfield’s top player. Seniors Caroline Donovan, Aaliyah Vescera, Meredith Snowden and Randi Brandt are back as are juniors Claire Vailionis and Sydney Donohue, and sophomores Francesca Luzzi, Samantha Barnes and Roxanne Snowden.

Litchfield golf: It looks to be e rebuilding season for coach Rob Gollow and his team. Top players are senior Jared Lipeika, juniors Carson Mello and Chris Tieman, and sophomores David O’Hara and Elizabeth Southard.

Litchfield baseball: The Cowboys boast 10 returning players as they look to improve on last season’s 4-16 record. Back for coach Kyle Weaver are seniors Matt Schweter, Zach Perbeck, Noah Waterfall, Connor Ryle and Christian Hudak, and juniors Coleby Bunnell, Jared Guilmart, Tom Brady, Matt Gostowski and Colin Terhune.

Wamogo baseball: The Warriors have some talent in the lineup and should be better than the 2-18 they were last year. Sean Coffey, a junior, is the top returning pitcher and hitter. Seniors Jared Lago and Kurtis Pepin, juniors Kyle Threlfall and Ryan McCarthy, and sophomores Ethan Collins, Colin Ferrer, Jack Dotson, Justin Emanuel, Eric Odenwaelder and Tyler Calhoun will all get playing time.

Wamogo softball: Expect another strong season from coach Dave Sylvester’s club as it has a strong cast of players back from last year’s Class S semifinalist club that finished 20-3. All-State pitcher Cyrena Zemaitis has gone on to college but Samantha Sylvester gives the Warriors a solid hurler as she moves to the pitching circle from second base. Other returning starters are seniors Olivia Cook and Caitlyn Maliszewski, juniors Mackenzie Harnett and Savannah Wheeler, and sophomore Danielle Maliszewski.

Litchfield softball: New coach Mandy Tuthill assumes the reins of a team that was 6-14 last year. Juniors and freshmen make up the entire roster. Key players are juniors Anna Conaghan, Paige Anderson, Riley Majeske, Lizzy Elmendorf and Caelan Erickson.
