The Litchfield Hills Rowing Club’s junior team made its debut in the U.S. Rowing Club Nationals in Bethel, Ohio, last weekend.
The premier summer youth rowing event attracted 112 clubs and more than 1,600 rowers from the high school level to Olympic class. Eight members of the LHRC participated.
The LHRC athletes competed in some well-practiced events, and some completely new boat configurations. All who participated were able to gain new and valuable racing experience
“The more these kids can compete in different conditions, and hold their own against larger clubs, the more they will learn and progress,” LHRC club coach Kynan Reelick said. “We wanted to give them a varied experience here at club nationals, and I think we succeeded.”
Among those progressing from time trials to semifinals included Rose Kelly and Sarah Viele in girls under-19, Noah Legendre in boys under-19, and Landry Langlais and Ruby Hatfield in girls under-17. Other LHRC rowers competing were Kalea Barger, Oliver Sanchez and Henry Zinn.
The LHRC summer program continues through mid-August, ushering in the fall season with boot camp the last week in August. Reelick coaches programs for all ages and ability levels at the club located on Bantam Lake, in Litchfield. For more information, see their website: litchfieldhillsrowing.org.
