Unbeaten Wamogo overcame a scrappy Litchfield club 56-35 on Tuesday to advance to the Berkshire League tournament championship game.

The Warriors (22-0) will face Shepaug in the title game on Friday at 6 p.m. at Lewis Mills. Shepaug defeated Nonnewaug in the first semifinal at Mills on Tuesday.

Litchfield was able to slow Wamogo in the first half and had a 17-16 lead on a bucket by Jared Guilmart, but Matt Mazzarelli scored just before halftime to put the Warriors up 18-17 at the break. They'd never trail again.

After a cold-shooting first half, Wamogo warmed up and quickly assumed control in the third quarter by outscoring the Cowboys 18-6.

"Coming out with that 9-2 run to start the second half put us in charge," Wamogo coach Gregg Hunt said. "Our defense was sound all night and eventually we got going on offense. In the first half half, our decision-making was terrible."

Garrett Sattazahn paced the Warriors with 19 points and Sean Coffey had 11. Reid Turtoro, playing on a sprained left ankle, was slowed but still scored eight points.

Tom Brady had 11 for the Cowboys (11-11), who will begin Division V state tournament play next week.

Cowboys coach Dan Goscinski threw in a few wrinkles to his game plan that flustered Wamogo a bit but not enough for the Cowboys to pull off an upset.

"I'm somewhat disappointed we didn't have the lead at the half," Goscinski said. "We got the shots but we needed the lead. Still, I'm proud of our effort. Wamogo just wore us down."

Wamogo advanced to the semifinals by defeating Terryville, 65-37, on Saturday as Sattazahn scored 17 points and Ethan Collins 14. Litchfield moved on with a 67-51 win over Gilbert. Evan Fischthal had a big night with 24 points, Guilmart had 16 and Tom Brady 16.
